How to update a bundle

This article tells you how to install an update to a SuiteBundle already installed in your account.

What is a bundle?

A bundle is a way to install customisations in your NetSuite account. There are three ways of installing customisations in a NetSuite environment. First, you can manually recreate the entire customisation. Second, you can install a SuiteApp from the SuiteApp Marketplace. Finally, you can install a bundle through the SuiteBundler.

A bundle is just a special group of customisations created in a NetSuite environment that can be installed as an app into other NetSuite environments.

Some of our products are distributed through the SuiteBundler for the foreseeable future, such as the Productivity Pack.

Why do I need to update it?

Some bundles will automatically be updated. These are called “Managed Bundles.”

Other bundles need to be manually updated if you want new features.

This requires you to stay on top of updates to the bundle but it also gives you the freedom to keep running an older version of a customisation, if you prefer.

How do I update a bundle?

To update a bundle, you need to go to your list of installed bundles. You will need to be an Administrator.

To do this, in your Center at the top of your screen, hover over Customization > SuiteBundler > Search & Install Bundles > List, and click on “List.”

This will open the “Installed Bundles” page. It looks like this:

In your list of installed bundles, there will be a column called: “Version.” This column will show you the version number of the bundle. If there is an update for the bundle, it will have an exclamation mark in the “Version” column which marks it as needing an update:

The first column, the “Action” column, has a little green man with a gear symbol. This button lets you update the bundle.

To update the bundle, hover over the green man and the gear symbol and a list of options will display. One of these is “Update.” Click the “Update” button.

This will open up the Preview Bundle Update page. The examples below show us updating the NetSuite Subsidiary Navigator bundle. Regardless of which bundle you are updating, the process is the same.

To perform the update, click on the “Update Bundle” button.

You will get a pop-up warning that you are updating the bundle and that if incompatible changes are being made to parts of the bundle then there may be data loss in your account.

Consider the pop-up's warning and take any necessary action, then click “OK” if you want to update the bundle.

The "Installed Bundles" page will reload and the Status column will have “Pending…” as a status for the bundle being updated:

Click the “Refresh” button at the top-left of the page to refresh the status of the bundle until it changes to a green tick like the other bundles.

If the status becomes a red X, like below, then something has gone wrong. Reach out to us at Reed Consultants for support.
